Success of business or a country rises or falls on leadership and character.  My friend Fred Harteis, models great business leadership-style as head of Harteis International and president of Biznet Productions but also as husband and father. Fred doesn’t just talk the talk -- he walks the walk.   Billy Florence

Billy Florence : Fred, who in history has influenced your leadership style?

Fred Harteis: Abraham Lincoln is one.

Billy Florence: Why Lincoln , Fred?

Fred Harteis: Lincoln had to unite a divided people and lead for the good of the nation.

Billy Florence: What else do you see as a secret of Lincoln's leadership style?

Fred Harteis: His faith, love of reading and caring for people.

Billy Florence: Reading?

Fred Harteis: Lincoln placed a high value on reading good books and continuing his education.  The majority of his education was in a home school environment.

Billy Florence: Have you benefited personally, Fred from studying the life of Lincoln?

Harteis: Yes!  I'd suggest to anyone interested in leadership to read the book "Lincoln on Leadership."

Billy Florence: If there some characteristic of Lincoln that comes to mind, Fred?

Fred Harteis: Lincoln was a humble man who was wiling to over look the weaknesses of those around him, to focus on what they could accomplish to help the nation.

Billy Florence: Any final tip, Fred?

Harteis: We all have great potential; most just lack the direction and inspiration.  I encourage people to find an atmosphere that provides and promotes personal and professional development.
